Samuel (Sam) Paul Snow was born on December 24th, 1993 to Paul and Cindi Snow and died on October 19th, 2023 surrounded by his family, after courageously living with brain cancer for nine years.
From making his appearance on Christmas Eve to singing karaoke to a ballad, Sam had a gentle way of getting your attention. He kept that attention with his dynamic writing skills and elegant way with words, which led him to pursue a degree in English with a concentration in creative writing from the University of North Texas. During a family vacation in 2014 to Port Aransas, Sam began experiencing symptoms and was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After undergoing surgery and treatment, he sought ways to create meaning from his experience. He became one of the founding members of the Dallas Young Adult Cancer Support (YACS) program, served on the planning committee for four years, and penned the monthly YACS-A-Lot Newsletter. This periodical along with Sam's ability to help others feel welcome and immediately included in this club with the most outrageous dues will be a part of Sam's lasting legacy with YACS.
Sam was an avid sports fan and could instantly spout stats for his favorite teams- the Patriots, Red Sox, Mavericks, and Stars. His love of Star Wars was a close second to sports. Ever the Renaissance man, he also loved reading Neil Gaiman, John Steinbeck and science fiction novels, playing trivia with friends, frequenting the Dallas Museum of Art and Dallas Arboretum, checking distilleries off the Texas Whiskey Trail list, and doting on Jyn, his mischievous cat and roommate. In addition, Sam often found joy in music and the performing arts which began in his early years of middle school all the way through high school at Plano East Senior High.
Besides his parents, Sam is survived by his sister, Abbie Snow. He will be greatly missed by his friends and the YACS community. A memorial service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church located at 6121 E. Lovers Lane, Dallas, TX 75214 on Saturday, November 4th at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a memorial bench in Sam's name at the Dallas Arboretum at Dallas Arboretum - Membership And Donations. Please include his name and the bench designation.
